Apple and Almond Tart with Red Currant Glaze
A delicious apple and almond tart with a red currant glaze, perfect for any occasion. Enjoy this treat warm or cold for a satisfying dessert.
Ingredients
- 200 g plain flour
- 150 g unsalted butter taken straight from the fridge
- 3 tbsp cold water
- 6 apples sliced and cored (keeping the skins on)
- 100 g ground almonds
- 100 g caster sugar
- 3 tbsp red currant jelly
- 3 tbsp hot water
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Cut the butter into small pieces and rub it into the flour until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
- Add the cold water and mix gently until the dough comes together as a paste.
- Roll the dough out so it’s just larger than the tart tin, then line the tin with the pastry (it’s best to cook the pastry in a tin, as cooking on stoneware can make it soggy).
- Place the ground almonds and sugar into the pastry case.
- Arrange the sliced apples on top of the almond mixture.
- Bake in the oven for 20 minutes.
- While the tart is baking, melt the red currant jelly and hot water together in a pan.
- After 20 minutes, remove the tart from the oven and pour the glaze over the top.
- Return the tart to the oven and bake for a further 5 minutes.
- Remove from the tin and allow to cool.
