Buttermilk Cookies

Ingrediënten

  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 1 cup lard or vegetable shortening
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 4 cups flour
  • ½ cup nuts chopped (optional)

Instructies

  • Cream together sugar and shortening.
  • Mix in vanilla and eggs thoroughly.
  • Dissolve baking soda in buttermilk.
  • Stir baking powder into flour.
  • Add milk and flour mixture alternately to the creamed mixture.
  • Stir in nuts.
  • Refrigerate overnight or for several hours.
  • Drop by teaspoonsful onto greased cookie sheet.
  • Bake at 400° for 8–10 minutes.
