Flat Bread Loaf
ZapatillaAlso known as chapata, this flatbread has gained popularity in Madrid and can be found in gourmet shops, often served in large squares with simple fillings. The dough is prepared in a manner similar to Aranda Bread Tortes, but the shape and thickness are distinct.
Ingrediënten
Yield: 2 Long Flat Loaves
- 1 batch of dough for Aranda Bread Tortes
- Cornmeal or all-purpose flour for dusting
Instructies
- Prepare the dough and allow it to rise as instructed in steps 1 and 2 of the Aranda Bread Tortes recipe.
- Position an oven rack in the upper-middle position.
- Preheat the oven to 400°F and place a pan of water on the oven floor.
- Punch down the dough.
- Divide it into two equal portions and roll each piece into a 16 x 4½-inch rectangle.
- Cut slits in the top of each loaf and dust them with flour.
- Sprinkle two cookie sheets with cornmeal and place one loaf on each sheet.
- Bake for 10 minutes.
- Remove the pan of water and continue baking for an additional 5 to 10 minutes, or until the loaves are lightly browned.
