Italian Sausage Pasta with Marinara

Ingrediënten

  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • ¾ cup chopped onion
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 14-1/2 ounce can diced tomatoes
  • 15- ounce can tomato sauce
  • 12- ounce can tomato paste
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 3 tablespoons grated Romano cheese
  • 1 pound ground hot Italian pork sausage formed into 8 patties
  • 16- ounce package whole wheat spaghetti pasta cooked

Garnish:

  • grated Parmesan cheese

Instructies

  • Heat olive oil in a Dutch oven over medium heat.
  • Sauté chopped onion and minced garlic until tender.
  • Stir in diced tomatoes with juice, tomato sauce, tomato paste, water, sugar, and seasonings.
  • Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 30 minutes.
  • Discard the bay leaf and stir in Romano cheese.
  • Cover and cook for an additional 30 minutes.
  • In a separate skillet, brown the sausage patties on both sides until no longer pink in the middle, about 10 minutes.
  • Divide the cooked spaghetti among serving bowls.
  • Top each serving with a sausage patty and generously ladle the marinara sauce over the top.
  • Garnish with grated Parmesan cheese.
