Molasses Cake
Molasses was sometimes more available than sugar. A favorite topping for mush, it was a common ingredient in the pantry or cellar.
Ingrediënten
- ¾ cup molasses
- 1 egg
- ½ cup sour milk or buttermilk
- 1½ cups flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- ¼ cup boiling water
Instructies
- Combine molasses, egg, and milk thoroughly.
- Stir in flour.
- Dissolve soda in boiling water, then add to batter.
- Bake in a greased and floured 8” square cake pan at 375° for 30–45 minutes.
