Ingrediënten

  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons of softened butter
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • Zest and juice of 2 large oranges
  • cup of boiling water
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • ¾ teaspoon of salt
  • 1 cup of dates pitted and chopped
  • ½ cup of chopped walnuts

Instructies

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease and flour a 5×9-inch (13×23 cm) loaf pan.
  • In a mixing bowl, lightly beat the egg.
  • Then, beat in the softened butter and sugar until the mixture is smooth.
  • Stir in 1 tablespoon of orange zest, 2/3 cup of orange juice, the boiling water, and vanilla extract.
  • In another bowl, stir together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Stir in the chopped dates and walnuts.
  • Add the flour mixture to the egg mixture and stir to combine until the ingredients are moistened.
  • Spoon the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
  • Bake the bread in the preheated oven for about 1 hour or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
