  • 4 fl oz cornstarch or potato starch
  • Olive oil spray
  • 2 fl oz soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp orange juice
  • 5 tsp hoisin sauce
  • ½ tsp ginger
  • 1 clove garlic crushed
  • 1 tbsp cold water
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tsp sesame seeds
  • Green onions for garnish
  • Cooked rice for serving

Instructions

Preparing the Chicken:

  • Toss the cubed chicken thighs in a bowl with cornstarch or potato starch until evenly coated.
  • Preheat the air fryer to 390°F (200°C).
  • Spray the coated chicken with olive oil spray.
  • Place the chicken in the air fryer basket and cook according to the air fryer manual for chicken, approximately 24 minutes (12 minutes on each side).

Making the Sauce:

  • While the chicken is cooking, in a small saucepan, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, orange juice, hoisin sauce, ginger, and crushed garlic over medium-high heat.
  • Whisk continuously until well mixed.
  • Once the brown sugar has fully dissolved and the mixture reaches a low boil, whisk in the water and cornstarch.
  • Cook the sauce for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens.

Mix in the sesame seeds.

  • The sauce should thicken further within 5 minutes of cooking.
  • Remove the sauce from the heat and set it aside for 5 minutes to thicken further.

Coating the Chicken:

  • Once the chicken is done cooking in the air fryer, remove it and transfer it to a mixing bowl.
  • Pour the prepared sauce over the chicken and toss to coat evenly.

Serving:

  • Serve the sesame chicken over cooked rice.
  • Garnish with sliced green onions.

Notes / Tips / Wine Advice:

Wine Advice:

Pair this flavorful sesame chicken with a semi-dry Riesling or a light-bodied Pinot Grigio. The wine’s acidity will complement the savory flavors of the dish, while its slight sweetness will balance the richness of the sauce.
