Cherry Danish Bars

Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 can cherry pie filling
  • 1 egg yolk + enough milk to make 2/3 cup
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • liquid reserve egg white
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  • Mix together flour, shortening, egg yolk, milk, salt, and sugar as for pie crust.
  • Roll out half of pastry to fit jelly roll pan.
  • Press on sides.
  • Spread pie filling over crust.
  • Roll out remaining dough, cover, and seal.
  • Beat egg white and brush over crust.
  • Bake at 375º for 40 minutes.
  • While warm, drizzle with glaze of powdered sugar, water, and vanilla.
  • You may need to add more water to obtain drizzling consistency.
