Cran-Apple Butter

Ingredients

  • 6 pounds apples peeled and chopped
  • 8 cups cranberry juice
  • 4 cups sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon optional
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg optional

Instructions

  • In a large kettle, combine apples and cranberry juice.
  • Bring to a boil over medium heat and cook until soft.
  • Process apples in food mill or food processor until you have a smooth puree.
  • Back in the kettle, combine puree, sugar, and spices.
  • Bring to a boil over medium heat and boil gently, stirring often, until mixture is thickened and spreadable.
  • Ladle into clean jars and process for 10 minutes in boiling-water bath.
