Shorshe Dharosh
Okra & Mustard
Ingredients
- 1 lb. whole okra
- 1 tbsp. mustard powder mixed with equal parts water to form a paste (adjust according to taste)
- 1 tsp. turmeric powder
- 1 tsp. chili powder
- 1 tsp. mustard seeds
- 1 tsp. salt or to taste
- 2 tbsp. oil
Instructions
- Heat oil in a non-stick frying pan or skillet over low heat.
- Add mustard seeds to the hot oil and fry for about 30 seconds until they start to splutter.
- Stir in the mustard paste and cook for another minute, ensuring it doesn’t burn.
- Add whole okra to the pan and toss to coat with the mustard mixture.
- Sprinkle turmeric powder, chili powder, and salt over the okra.
- Mix well.
- Cook the okra on medium-low heat for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until tender but still crisp.
- Once the okra is cooked to your liking, remove the pan from the heat.
- Serve hot as a main course, accompanied by rice or Indian flatbread.
