Sour Cherry Conserve

Ingredients

  • 3 oranges peeled and seeds removed
  • 3 lemons peeled and seeds removed
  • 5 cups sour cherries
  • 2 cups chopped apples
  • ½ cup water
  • 4 cups sugar
  • ¾ cup walnuts

Instructions

  • Chop oranges and lemons into pulp.
  • Place in large kettle or saucepan.
  • Add cherries, apples, and water.
  • Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring often.
  • Continue boiling for 10 minutes, or until cherries are softened.
  • Add sugar and continue boiling for 30 minutes or until thickened.
  • Add nuts and boil for 5 minutes longer.
  • Ladle into clean jars and process for 10 minutes in boiling-water bath.
