- 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 Tbsp poppy seeds
For the Vanilla-Bean Sugar Cookies:
- ½ cup butter softened
- ½ cup shortening
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla bean paste
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp cream of tartar
- ⅛ tsp salt
- 3 egg yolks
- 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
For the Spicy Sugar Cookies:
- ½ cup butter softened
- ½ cup shortening
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp cream of tartar
- ⅛ tsp salt
- 3 egg yolks
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ tsp cayenne pepper
Instructies
For the Lemon-Poppy Seed Sugar Cookies:
- In a small bowl, combine the sugar and 1 Tbsp. lemon zest.
- Use your fingertips to rub the lemon zest into the sugar until the sugar becomes very fragrant.
- Add the lemon-scented sugar mixture with the baking soda and 2 Tbsp. poppy seeds to the basic sugar cookie dough recipe provided earlier.
