Spice Cake from Phillis Pellman Good

Ingrediënten

  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • ½ cup butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup sour milk
  • cups sifted flour
  • tsp. baking power
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Instructies

  • Cream sugar and butter together until fluffy.
  • Add eggs and beat until light.
  • Sift together all dry ingredients, then add them alternately with the milk to the creamed mixture, beating well after each addition.
  • Mix in the vanilla.
  • Pour into greased layer pans or a 9” x 13” cake pan.
  • Bake at 350° for 35–40 minutes.

Notes / Tips / Wine Advice:

Variation:
Use cloves instead of nutmeg.
Add 1 tsp. allspice to dry ingredients.
Add 1 tsp. cloves to dry ingredients.
Makes 1 layer cake or 1 long cake
