Whole Wheat Bread from Phillis Pellman Good
Reflecting the more health-conscious attitude of many Amish cooks today, this recipe uses honey in place of sugar and whole wheat flour instead of all white flour.
Ingrediënten
- 2 packages dry yeast
- 4 cups warm water
- ½ cup margarine or butter softened
- ¼ cup molasses
- ½ cup honey
- 2 tsp. salt
- 6 cups whole wheat flour
- 4 cups white flour
Instructies
- Dissolve yeast in warm water.
- Combine margarine, molasses, honey, and salt and mix well.
- Add yeast mixture.
- Gradually add flour.
- Turn dough onto floured board and knead until smooth, about 7–10 minutes.
- Place in greased bowl and let rise until double.
- Punch down.
- Let dough rest a few minutes.
- Shape into 4 loaves.
- Place in greased bread pans and let rise about 1 hour.
- Bake at 375° for 35–40 minutes.
