Makes: 8 To 12 Servings

  • Butter And Flour For Prepping The Pan
  • 2 Cups All-Purpose Flour Sifted
  • 1 Teaspoon Baking Soda
  • ½ Teaspoon Ground Cloves
  • ¼ Teaspoon Salt
  • Teaspoon Ground Nutmeg
  • ½ Cup 1 Stick Unsalted Butter, At Room Temperature
  • ¾ Cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 Cup Buttermilk At Room Temperature
  • 8 Ounces Dates Chopped
  • ½ Teaspoon All-Purpose Flour

Instructies

  • Place A Rack In The Center Of The Oven, And Preheat The Oven To 325°F.
  • Grease And Flour A 9″ Loaf Pan, And Shake Out The Excess Flour.
  • Set The Pan Aside.
  • Sift Together The 2 Cups Flour, Baking Soda, Cloves, Salt, And Nutmeg In A Large Mixing Bowl.
  • Resift Again, And Set The Bowl Aside.
  • Place The Butter And Sugar In A Large Mixing Bowl, And Beat With An Electric Mixer On Medium Speed Until The Mixture Is Creamy And Light, 1 Minute.
  • Alternately Add The Flour Mixture And The Buttermilk, Beginning And Ending With The Flour, And Beating On Low Speed Until Just Combined.
  • Toss The Dates With The ½ Teaspoon Flour, And Fold Them Into The Batter.
  • Pour The Batter Into The Prepared Pan, And Place The Pan In The Oven.
  • Bake The Cake Until It Is Lightly Browned And A Toothpick Inserted In The Center Comes Out Clean, 65 To 75 Minutes.
  • Let Rest Until Cool, Then Slice And Serve.
