Caramelized Onion Chutney
This sweet and savory caramelized onion chutney is the perfect accompaniment to burgers, cheeses, or grilled meats. A must-try for adding a rich depth of flavor to any dish.

Ingredients
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 2 tsp fresh thyme chopped
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- ½ tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ tsp ground cloves
- ¼ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp freshly ground black pepper
- 4 large onions thinly sliced
- ½ cup water
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.
- Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, for about 10 minutes until they begin to soften.
- Stir in the brown sugar, balsamic vinegar, and apple cider vinegar.
- Add the fresh thyme, ground ginger, cinnamon, cloves, salt, and black pepper.
- Pour in the water and stir to combine.
- Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer, uncovered, for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- The chutney is ready once the onions are tender and the mixture has thickened to a jam-like consistency.
- Remove from heat and let it cool before serving or storing.
