Air Fryer Sesame Chicken with Homemade Sauce

Ingredients
- 6 boneless skinless chicken thighs, cut into cubed chunks
- 4 fl oz cornstarch or potato starch
- Olive oil spray
- 2 fl oz soy sauce
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 2 tbsp orange juice
- 5 tsp hoisin sauce
- ½ tsp ginger
- 1 clove garlic crushed
- 1 tbsp cold water
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 2 tsp sesame seeds
- Green onions for garnish
- Cooked rice for serving
Instructions
Preparing the Chicken:
- Toss the cubed chicken thighs in a bowl with cornstarch or potato starch until evenly coated.
- Preheat the air fryer to 390°F (200°C).
- Spray the coated chicken with olive oil spray.
- Place the chicken in the air fryer basket and cook according to the air fryer manual for chicken, approximately 24 minutes (12 minutes on each side).
Making the Sauce:
- While the chicken is cooking, in a small saucepan, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, orange juice, hoisin sauce, ginger, and crushed garlic over medium-high heat.
- Whisk continuously until well mixed.
- Once the brown sugar has fully dissolved and the mixture reaches a low boil, whisk in the water and cornstarch.
- Cook the sauce for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens.
Mix in the sesame seeds.
- The sauce should thicken further within 5 minutes of cooking.
- Remove the sauce from the heat and set it aside for 5 minutes to thicken further.
Coating the Chicken:
- Once the chicken is done cooking in the air fryer, remove it and transfer it to a mixing bowl.
- Pour the prepared sauce over the chicken and toss to coat evenly.
Serving:
- Serve the sesame chicken over cooked rice.
- Garnish with sliced green onions.
