Cherry Danish Bars
Ingredients
- 2 ½ cups flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 cup shortening
- 1 can cherry pie filling
- 1 egg yolk + enough milk to make 2/3 cup
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- liquid reserve egg white
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
Instructions
- Mix together flour, shortening, egg yolk, milk, salt, and sugar as for pie crust.
- Roll out half of pastry to fit jelly roll pan.
- Press on sides.
- Spread pie filling over crust.
- Roll out remaining dough, cover, and seal.
- Beat egg white and brush over crust.
- Bake at 375º for 40 minutes.
- While warm, drizzle with glaze of powdered sugar, water, and vanilla.
- You may need to add more water to obtain drizzling consistency.
