Classic Maryland Crab Cakes

  • 1 lb. crabmeat flaked
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 cup saltine crackers crushed
  • 1 teaspoon seafood seasoning or pepper
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 egg beaten
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flaked crabmeat, mayonnaise, crushed saltine crackers, seafood seasoning or pepper, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and beaten egg.
  • Mix the ingredients thoroughly.
  • Form the mixture into 8 patties, ensuring they hold together well.
  • Heat about 1/8 inch of oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  • Fry the crab cakes in the hot oil until they are golden brown on both sides.
  • This usually takes about 4-5 minutes per side.
  • Once cooked, transfer the crab cakes to a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.

Notes / Tips / Wine Advice:

Serve the crab cakes hot, and if desired, with a side of tartar sauce or lemon wedges.
