Spicy Air-Fried Cauliflower Popcorn

  • 2 tablespoons of flaxseed meal
  • ¼ cup of Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons of hot sauce e.g., sriracha, Mexican hot sauce, or Tabasco
  • 1 and 3/4 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons of onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons of garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons of smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon of cayenne pepper
  • ½ teaspoon of ground white pepper
  • 1 medium cauliflower approximately 3 pounds
  • Olive oil cooking spray
  • Additional hot sauce and lemon wedges for serving

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine the flaxseed meal with 1/4 cup of water and let it stand for 5 minutes or until it thickens.
  • Add the Dijon mustard and hot sauce, then stir to combine.
  • In a second large bowl, combine the flour, onion powder, garlic powder, and spices.
  • Season with salt.
  • Cut the cauliflower into 1-inch florets.
  • Preheat a 5- or 6-quart air fryer to 350°F for 3 minutes.
  • Add the cauliflower florets to the flaxseed mixture and stir to coat.
  • Work in batches to toss the cauliflower in the flour mixture to ensure even coating.
  • Generously spray with olive oil.
  • Carefully pull out the air fryer pan and basket, place half of the coated cauliflower in the basket, and slide the pan and basket back into the appliance.
  • Keep the temperature set at 350°F and set the timer for 10 minutes.
  • Cook until the cauliflower is golden.
  • Transfer the cauliflower popcorn to a bowl, season with salt, and cover to keep it warm.
  • Repeat the cooking process with the remaining coated cauliflower.
  • Serve the crispy cauliflower popcorn with extra hot sauce and lemon wedges.

You can also enjoy the cauliflower popcorn with 12.5 ounces of heated pasta sauce for dipping.
