Smoky Fried Calamari

Calamari can be found in the frozen section, sometimes already cut into circles; however, fresh squid tubes can be purchased at the fish counter, and they are easy to slice at home.

  • 1 ½ tablespoons no-sugar-added tomato paste
  • ¾ tablespoon gochujang
  • ¾ tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup crushed pork rinds
  • 150 grams about 6 calamari tubes, cut into 6mm rings

Instructies

  • Preheat air fryer at 200°C for 3 minutes.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together tomato paste, gochujang, lime juice, paprika and salt.
  • Add pork rinds to a separate shallow dish.
  • Coat a calamari ring in tomato mixture.
  • Shake off excess.
  • Roll through pork rind crumbs.
  • Repeat with remaining rings.
  • Place half of calamari rings in air fryer basket lightly greased with olive oil.
  • Cook for 2 minutes.
  • Gently flip and cook for an additional 2 minutes.
  • Transfer cooked calamari to a large serving dish and repeat cooking with remaining calamari.
  • Serve warm.
