buttermilk

cocoa powder

boiling water
▢

baking soda

Cream sugars and lard
or shortening.
Instructies
Mix in eggs, buttermilk, flour, and cocoa until well blended.
Dissolve baking soda in boiling water, then stir into batter.
Pour into greased and floured round layer cake pans or into a long pan, 9” x 13”.
Bake at 350° for 25–35 minutes.
Test for doneness before removing from oven.
