In a mixing bowl, combine margarine, sugar, egg, and vanilla.
Mix until smooth.
Add flour and baking powder.

Use a circle-shaped cookie cutter or the top of a large glass (about 2 inches wide) to cut out circles in the dough.
If desired, cut dough into other shapes.
Place a fortune off to one side in each circle.
Fold the circle in half and then in half again.
Pinch the edges to seal.
Preheat the oven to 425°F.
Reroll leftover scraps of dough and make additional cookies.
Repeat the process with the other half of the dough.
Bake cookies for about 10 minutes or until they are lightly browned.
