Yeast Buns

Makes 3–31/2 dozen rolls

Ingrediënten

  • 3 packages dry yeast
  • 1 cup lukewarm water
  • 2 cups milk
  • ½ cup lard or vegetable oil
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 7 –8 cups flour
  • 1 Tbsp. salt

Instructies

  • Dissolve the yeast in the lukewarm water.
  • Set aside.
  • Scald milk and add the shortening and sugar to it.
  • Let cool to lukewarm, then add yeast mixture to it.
  • Beat in 3½–4 cups flour.
  • Let rest in warm place for ½ hour.
  • Beat in salt and remaining flour.
  • Knead on lightly floured surface until the dough is no longer sticky.
  • Let rise until double in bulk.
  • Punch down, then form into balls the size of a large walnut.
  • Place in a greased baking pan and let rise again until nearly double.
  • Bake at 400° for 15–20 minutes or until golden brown.
